The Garden As of August 1, 2011
Some photos of the glower garden and the vegetable garden taken on August 1, 2011. Above and below: the perennial garden: lilies are in bloom!
A longshot of the flower garden. It looks like a jungle and we like that!
The three raised vegetable beds.
The former strawberry bed. The strawberries were taking up a lot of space and we decided to rip them all out. My Mother, visiting from Ohio, grabbed some gardening gloves and did the labor! "Mom, do you need any help? Mom, you OK?" "Oh yes. I love gardening," she said, ripping and tearing, like a one-woman demolition team. She's amazing. I DID help some, but she did the bulk of this job.
The tomatoes, dense and getting red.
Ditto the yellow squash and zucchini.
Two smaller beds.
Foreground: brussel sprouts. There used to be lettuce here, but it only lasts so long before it gets tall and blooms. By that time, its leaves are bitter -- and you have to rip it out.
Background bed: cucumber (yielding 2-3 cucumbers a day) and green peppers (a couple of peppers a week).
