Commercials, 1960s style!
Via videoholic50s60s70s: here is a film-chain copy of the STAR TREK episode "Space Seed" with all of the commercials intact and the episode mostly taken out. Yes, really: the parts where you would walk out of the room in 1968 for a visit to the fridge are all here. The length and pre-MTV cutting pace of the commercials is a reminder of a different time with a different attention span. This is a very faded 16mm bit of film.
The commercials in order: Polaroid (narrated by Alexander Scourby, whose voice you may remember from a bunch of shows - you may still buy a copy of him reading the Bible at his site), Viceroy cigarettes, Shell Oil, RCA Victor, Pepsi, Lay's Potato Chips (with the one and only Bert Lahr in a devil outfit), Geritol, and Aqua Velva.

For the casual viewer of the long-running BBC TV show, THE STORY OF DOCTOR WHO (2003) is an hour long documentary on what went on before; general information about the previous Doctors, the Daleks, regeneration, how little money the show had and so on. This was upon the occasion of the series' 40th anniversary.
Not sure who the fellow is who does that dead on impersonation of Tom Baker in the beginning of the video. I believe he's the same fellow from this Dead Ringers parody below:

In honor of Cathy Guisewite's one year anniversary of her retirement. here's a new "Learn to Draw" video by Tom Gammill where, as we all know by now, we really do not learn to draw.
But we do meet cartoonists Cathy Guisewite and Bill Amend. This was originally shown at the 2011 NCS Reuben awards dinner.
The gag where Bill has to do his Sunday page got a huge roar of laughter at the dinner. So did an uncredited cameo by a famous cartoonist at the end of the 3 minute video.

Video: DOCTOR WHO: "Death is the Only Answer"
Seems that some kids at a school in Basingstoke wrote a DOCTOR WHO mini-episode.
Take a look at their faces as the DW production team, which has come to their school, shows them the finished product. There are a few surprises, too.
In Britain, DOCTOR WHO is a children's show that has been part of the fabric of growing up since 1963.I can only imagine what it was like for these elementary school kids to have been part of the show.
And here's the actual show.
Fun, and there's a fez involved, so that's, of course, very cool.

From 1965, below is a description of the then-new LOST IN SPACE TV series. My guess is that this "Network Sales Presentation" was whipped up for nervous affiliate program directors who may have been wary of a science fiction show on prime time. The emphasis here is on explaining how the viewer can relate to the cast and "how it [LOST IN SPACE} can sell for you."The narrator sounds like he's right out of those Encyclopedia Britannica educational films, combining gee whiz facts with jokey remarks. For instance, TV's ZORRO, Guy Williams' "jet propelled rocket pack" is described with the comment, "wouldn't Dad like to use this beat that thruway traffic?" Marta Kristin is the pretty big sister "who has a problem every teenager can relate to: what is she going to do for a boyfriend?"The original unaired pilot, "No Place to Hide," had the Robinson family ONLY, without comic foil Dr. Smith or the Robot. This 6 minute film appears to only use footage from that source. The presentation also lacks dialogue and John Williams' music.
Thirty years after the original series was cancelled, there was, of course, a theatrical movie in 1998, as well as a 2003 pilot, for a new Warner Bros. TV series to be titled THE ROBINSONS: LOST IN SPACE. Despite it being directed by John Woo, the WB passed on it. The sets lived on, becoming part of the Pegasus Battlestar in the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA revamp.

On TCM Tonight: William Hartnell in CARRY ON SERGEANT
A pre-DOCTOR WHO William Hartnell (he's the sergeant; that's him with the big head yelling the title in the above poster) stars in CARRY ON SERGEANT (1959) on Turner Classic Movies tonight at 8pm EST.

TV Themes That Get Stuck in My Head
THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR
I remember watching THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR when I was a kid but haven't seen it since. Why does the theme song still linger in my head? I can't recall the show nor have I seen it since. I remember the maid character being a bit more scary than the dead sea captain. And any title sequence with the dog getting credit is cool.At least, when you're a kid it's cool.

Maybe one of the most favorite of TV themes. The NBC MYSTERY MOVIE theme is by Henry Mancini and it was a staple every Sunday night for years, used to introduce every darn first-run episode of COLUMBO, MCMILLAN AND WIFE, McCLOUD and others not-so-well known "Mystery Movies" like Helen Hayes and Mildred Natwick as THE SNOOP SISTERS and Richard Boone's HEC RAMSEY.
ROOM 222
The ROOM 222 theme by Jerry Goldsmith gets stuck in my head all the time. The first season of the show, created by the same people who would later create THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, is out on DVD in a no frills edition.

A brief prequel to the upcoming August 27th DOCTOR WHO episode with the attention-getting title of "Let's Kill Hitler." No spoilers here and it runs less than 2 minutes -- but unless you saw the previous episodes, there's no context.

Who knew there were two mummy movies in 1999?
12 years ago this movie, THE ALL NEW ADVENTURES OF LAUREL AND HARDY IN FOR LOVE OR MUMMY, with Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham in a supporting role, came out of the blue. Maybe it played the theatres for a day or a week, but I never saw it nor heard of it. It popped up on cable some years later, running regularly in the twilight hours. I watched some of it. The plot was stunningly bad, but I was fascinated by the two leads. They did a good pastiche.
Why it seemed like a good idea to do this, I don't know. Bronson Pinchot and Gailard Sartain star as descendents of the original Laurel and Hardy. They do a good job of mimicking the comedy duo, but it's like New Coke. Do not want. Do not need. Best left alone, y'know?
I read a story that Larry Harmon, who managed the Laurel and Hardy property (he created the animated shorts and comic books in the 1960s), was a friend to Pinchot. For Pinchot's 1980s PERFECT STRANGERS sitcom, he (Pinchot) portrayed Stan Laurel in a dream sequence. The story goes that Harmon loaned Pinchot a pair of Stan Laurel's actual shoes for the sequence.
Perhaps this movie was, sincerely, a dream of Pinchot's and Harmon's to create. With Harmon as co-director, the movie was made, for good or for ill; for love, rather than for money I would bet. The silver lining of this: Perhaps it has served as an introduction of the duo to kids.
